First Place:

Third Place:
Once Upon a Midnight Dreary by Kenny Wright Jr. from Inglewood, CA.

After the love of his life dies in a bloody gun battle, outlaw Eddie Allen is forced to seek refuge in an abandoned apartment building. But what originally seems like the best place to hide turns into a four-walled house of madness for this antihero, who is haunted by memories of his lost love, close encounters with police and a mysterious Raven that seems intent on driving him mad. (Adapted from Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, The Raven.)

Top Ten Finalists (in alphabetical order):

Sam & Doug by Brendan Cleaves from London, England.

Sam and Doug meet six months after the outbreak of a virus that turns people into rage infected rabid monsters. Sam had to leave her husband and baby behind when an infected breaks in her house and traps them in a room. She runs for help only to find Doug hiding inside his house. Doug is waiting for his partner, Paul, to return. Paul is a doctor and went into the hospital when the outbreak started. Doug is running out of supplies and the only friend he has is his cat, Howard. Sam soon realizes that Doug is living in denial, Paul is not going to come home. She persuades him to return with her to save her family and then she will help him find Paul. They both leave Doug's house to save Sam's family only to find something darker lurking in her past.

Adrift by Stuart Creque from Moraga, CA.

An Inuit hunter places his disabled wife on an ice floe with the things she needs for a comfortable death. She insists that he share a last meal with her.

Cold Strange Road by Regan Lee Henson from Salina,  OK.

Four friends leave a high school reunion to investigate a local legend only to discover that it's all too real.

The Retreat by Samantha Kolesnik from Cockeysville, MD.

A young writer visits a country retreat hosted by two sisters who are hungry for more than a little inspiration.

Walter's Days by Nathan Ludwig from Midlothian, VA.

A young man wakes in a field every morning only to repeat the same day over and over again as he's brutally murdered in increasingly elaborate and ridiculous ways.

Interruption by Richard Moon from Pasadena, CA.

When masked men terrorize a wealthy family during dinner, they find that the family isn’t what they seem.

Dead Sprint by Jason Tostevin from New Albany, OH.

The last surviving members of a rescue team must outrace a horrifying plague of monsters -- and outlast treachery in their own ranks -- to give humanity one last chance at a cure.
